Change Outlook SMTP Port

If you received the error (Sending and Receiving' reported error (0x80042109): 'Outlook is unable to connect to your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server.), please change the Outlook SMTP Port.

Outlook Express

  1. Go go Tools -> Accounts
  2. Select Mail, Click the e-mail address, then Click "Propertise"
  3. Go to Advance
  4. Change the port to Port "2525" or "26"
  5. Restart Outlook

Microsoft Outlook 2003

  1. Go to Microsoft Outlook 2003, Then Select Tools -> E-mail Accounts
  2. Select View or Change Existing E-mail Accounts
  3. Click Next then , Then click Change
  4. Click More Settings
  5. Click Advance, and change the port 25 to port 2525 or 26
  6. Restart Outlook

Microsoft Outlook 2007

  1. Go to Tools ->E-mail Accounts
  2. Select the e-mail address, and click Change
  3. Click More Settings
  4. Click "Advance", and change the port number from 25 to port 2525 or 26
  5. Restart Outlook

Netscape 7.x

  1. Launch the Netscape mail client
  2. Drop down the Edit menu, and choose Mail and Newsgroup Account Settings
  3. Click Outgoing Server (SMTP)
  4. On the right hand side next to server name it should say Port: 25
  5. Change that number from 26 to 2525
  6. Click OK
  7. Restart Netscape

Mozilla 1.x

  1. Launch the Mozilla mail client
  2. Drop down the Edit menu, and choose Mail and Newsgroup Account Settings
  3. Click Outgoing Server (SMTP)
  4. On the right hand side next to server name it should say Port: 25
  5. Change that number from 26 to 2525
  6. Click OK
  7. Restart Mozilla
Netscape 4.x
  1. Launch Netscape
  2. Drop down the Edit menu, and choose Preferences
  3. Expand Mail and Newsgroups by click the + sign
  4. Click Mail Servers
  5. On the right side change the Outgoing Mail Server: from mail.yourdomain.com to mail.yourdomain.com:26 or 2525
  6. Click OK
  7. Restart Netscape
